The Apple House (4*Gold) is two barns connected with a glassed walkway which makes a separate living room and dining room/kitchen, ideal for four who require a little extra space. The living room has exposed beams, is carpeted and has underfloor heating as well as a woodburning stove. A door opens out onto the patio which has an eight-seater dining table and the HotSprings Flair hot tub which comfortably seats six. The patio is enclosed by a 4ft Devon stone wall and a gate leads to a stile for direct access to the surrounding fields. The entrance hallway is ideal for storing boots and jackets as well as for drying a dog and there is also a WC downstairs.
Upstairs, which is accessed by a traditional oak staircase, are two carpeted bedrooms, one double and one twin with a shared bathroom with bath and shower.

From the homely feel, layout, equipment, most comfortable beds in the world and the amazing garden and hot tub, to the fabulous hospitality provided by Sylvia and Kristian, Devon Country Barns is the most relaxing place. Even our labrador (Edna) cant wait to go again!

Faultless! Barn immaculate and again fantastic. Cake always a welcome addition and the gift of a bottle of sparkly made our stay even more special. Hosts are always very welcoming and there is nothing that is too much trouble. The log burner was definitely well used this week.

This is a such wonderful find. It was our second visit to Apple House to see in the new year and it did not disappoint. On arrival, the lovely Christmas tree, tea lights twinkling, home made cake, fresh eggs, not to mention a lovely bottle of Champagne was just the welcome we needed. The house is cosy, warm, spotless and the hot tub is a lovely luxury. Cuddling up around the wood burner with logs from the barn was a lovely way to relax. Sylvia was a wonderful host, nice to have a chat with her and Christian but she also left us to enjoy our family few days together. This is a good base to explore the local area but also to chill, unwind from the bustle of life. We love it and will definitely be back!

Well yet again we have had a wonderful stay in Apple House. We relaxed as soon as we turned the key ! Devon Country Barns are situated in a lovely location with wonderful walks only a short car journey away. Sylvia & Kristian have taken over from Richard & Ute seamlessly, upholding their very high standards, which is very much appreciated when only away for a short break. We will be booking again for next year & if possible will try to get a sneaky quick break in later this year
Fabulous stay my husband and I and our dog Bayley had a wonderful time. Cottage was perfect and hot tub fab.
Lovely family, would definitely recommend if wanting peace and quiet in lovely surroundings. Nothing to much trouble.

Having just returned from a few days away in Devon and specifically at Devon Country Barns, I can honestly say how happy the stay has made us. After a difficult few months, time away from home was so welcomed and to do it in such a setting was truly wonderful. We stayed in Apple House which is beautiful, perfectly placed to overlook the lovely countryside all around the Barns especially from the comfort of the hot tub! We were incredibly lucky to experience the best weather of 2018 so far and we took full advantage to both explore the magnificent surroundings and also enjoy the cottage to the full. Both Ute and Richard are as welcoming hosts as you can get and their hospitality is second to none. We can’t wait for our next visit!
2nd time we’ve stayed in Apple House with our 2 small dogs. Lovely barn conversion everything’s well thought out and there’s everything provided for your stay (excepting of course food ) Wine, Home made apple juice , milk & cake on are left for you on arrival along with a basket of fresh eggs & even the dogs don’t get left out with a little welcome basket of balls, treats & emergency poop bags.
Barn is immaculately clean as is bed linen & towels , even towels are provided for Hot Tub use so you really only need to take separate beach towels for days out .
Lovely peaceful setting & the dogs loved exploring the river at the bottom of the field. The field onto the river is secure enough if your dog has recall, to enjoy a game of fetch in but there are free range chickens & ducks in the next field . The wall around the courtyard garden of Apple House is secure to let your dogs out in – although our inquisitive boy did find a low section so we just put our travel gate in front of it .
Host Sylvia & her family are lovely & welcoming & are on hand if you need them for anything.
Barns are near to many good walks & towns all around a 30min drive away as the barn is “inland” so if you don’t mind driving out there’s plenty to see. We found Bude beach to be a nice dog friendly beach . Barn is lovely & cool downstairs in the sunny weather but can get a little warm in the bedrooms (as in the roof area) so we took fans with us but that is really only a small thing.
Once again a lovely stay in a great setting with great hosts!

We had a lovely stay again at Devon Country Barns. We had booked Apple House but due to an issue with the boiler we also got to try Orchard Barn! Both properties are lovely and both have hot tubs.
Orchard Barn is a cosy cottage for 2 and we settled in really well – we would certainly book again if we were on our own. When our daughter arrived, we moved back to Apple House – as we have been before it feels like home from home and the changes in the bathroom are great. The only downside was the double bed as I found this uncomfortable (the one in Orchard is very comfy).
Strawberry Fields Farm shop is a must to visit as is both the Dartmoor and Castle Inns in Lydford – both are dog friendly. The Castle has a lovely garden if the weather is fair. We walked up to Widdergy Cross (you can park near the Dartmoor Inn) and this was a lovely walk with stunning views.
Sylvia is a wonderful host and it was lovely to visit again.

We spent just a weekend at Apple Barn but it was well worth the journey and the Bank Holiday traffic. Sylvia and Kristian were as welcoming as ever and we tucked straight into the delicious flapjacks and home pressed apple juice that the family had kindly left for us in Apple Barn. The cottage was spacious and spotless and had everything we could have needed. The fresh eggs were also delicious at breakfast from the resident chickens. We enjoyed our wander to the river for some frisbee throwing and then delicious pub lunches at The Cornish Arms and then The Dartmoor Inn. The jacuzzi was delightful with beautiful views across the valley. Oh and super comfy beds were much enjoyed. We will certainly return to this special place.

Apple House was lovely and the perfect stay for us and our 3 doggies.
Nothing more relaxing after pounding the hills of Dartmoor than popping into the hot tub and watching the sunset.
Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.
